Life Coaching – In or Out?

Life Coaching – In or Out? by Glen James

If you go to work every day you may wonder why you do it. For some people their work can be a source of frustration. It can be that you failed to get a promotion you want or that you may not be sure how to get the most from your job. If your work is unfulfilling then you could potentially benefit from professional life coaching.

In many ways this is similar to the way a manager works in a sports team. The manager looks at how someone in their team performs and how they can make their performance better. This can be due to their attitude or possibly an external influence. It is the responsibility of the life coach to see what is appropriate.

It is important to be clear on what this role entails. For some people they can mistake this with therapy. A qualified coach talks about the present situation of their client and does not focus on the past. This can be in terms of them personally or their working environment.

For example a client may work in a call centre. They can feel frustrated because they are not getting the amount of successful calls that their supervisor expects them to get. A good coach would look at their technique on the phone and suggest ways of doing this more effectively, such as using more positive or language or learning how to be assertive without being overly aggressive.

This can also be extended to a working environment in general. The management of a company may not necessarily realize is that their approach may be counter productive. For example some people may think that they achieve more by working through lunch. Some studies have shown this is not the case and that taking a proper break can actually be more productive.

There are numerous places where you can find coaching services. You may find individual coaches or an agency with a number to choose from. In each case you need to look at the kind of experience and qualifications they have in order to gauge whether you feel they will be best suited to your requirements either as an individual or a business.

There are various listings sites and directories where you can find life coaching services. It is up to you to decide what is most appropriate for your needs or the needs of the business that you work for. With the right coach you can get the best long term results so it is worth carefully considering who is most appropriate.
